Council, Kai Innovators exists to grow kai related projects and shape the future of South Auckland’s
food systems. Grounded in mātauranga Māori and Pacific knowledge, it has grown into
a dynamic network driving sustainable change.

Alexanda Whitcombe

Descendant of Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi and Ngā Rauru Kītahi in Aotearoa New Zealand and Lakepa village in Niue. Alex is futures design strategist and founder of KOOTUIA and project director of Kai Innovators. He is passionate about inter-generational impact amongst social issues in the sectors of Education, Entrepreneurship, Urban Development and the natural environment.
Sterling Ruwhiu
Sterling Ruwhiu is of Ngāti Porou and Ngati Kahungūnu decent. Sterling leads operations and community engagement with Kootuia led projects and is the co-host for the Kai Regional Hui alongside Auckland Council’s Connected Communities team. She has expertise in event management, community engagement, and a passion for sustainability and conservation projects.
